  • What's DPC?
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a healthcare model where patients pay a monthly subscription fee directly to their physician for a range of primary care services. It eliminates the red tape and restrictions placed on most other traditional medical practices, and instead puts the patients first with more personalized and accessible care. See Direct Primary Care
  • What services are included in the DPC membership?
The DPC membership includes comprehensive primary care services such as routine check-ups, preventive care, chronic disease management, and same-day or next-day appointments. It also covers basic lab tests and procedures performed in the office. See DPC Benefits
  • Is Direct Primary Care the same as concierge medicine?
Although Direct Primary Care (DPC) and concierge (VIP) practice models have similarities such as membership fees and small patient panels, there are some very fundamental differences: VIP charges significantly higher membership fees PLUS retail prices for medical services, DPC has much lower member rates with INCLUDED medical services.
  • Will I benefit if I don't need frequent medical care?
Absolutely! We believe that everyone benefits from more personalized medical care, which is why we offer customized healthcare tailored to each patient's specific needs. Being proactive with preventative healthcare is better than being reactive after more complicated medical issues arise.
  • What about hospitalizations or specialty care?
By providing unparalleled access to your physician, our hope is to minimize referrals to specialists or hospitals. However, if needed, we will work closely with your hospitalist and/or specialists to help manage your care.
  • How do I contact my physician after hours?
Since urgent medical needs don't always happen during business hours, you can call, text, email, video chat (Telemedicine), social media message, etc. your physician any time. It's how we provide personalized healthcare.
  • What if I require medical attention while away from home?
The independence we've gained by removing the restrictions of third-party payers has allowed us to communicate more freely. Since we know our patients well, many illnesses can be diagnosed and treated remotely via phone, email, text or webcam (TeleHealth). We can find a pharmacy near you and order the appropriate medications, regardless of your location. See TeleMedicine
  • How do patients feel about DPC?
Our patients seem to love the Direct Primary Care (DPC) model that Family Medicine of Pooler offers. But don't take our word for it – check out the latest patient reviews.
  • Do you accept health insurance?
Our practice welcomes all patients, regardless of their health insurance coverage. Most services provided within our practice are included with your membership. However, for services performed outside the office – like labs, imaging studies, specialist visits, or prescription medications – you have the option to use your health insurance plan as usual.
  • Do FMOP patients still need health insurance?
We recommend our patients continue a major medical plan with a high deductible and health savings account for financial assistance in case of hospitalization or specialist referrals.
  • Can I use my insurance for services not covered by DPC?
Yes, you can still use your insurance for services not covered by DPC, such as specialist visits, hospitalizations, or surgeries. DPC focuses on primary care, and having insurance can provide additional coverage for other medical needs.
  • Can I still join FMOP if I have Medicare?
Yes, but you will need to sign a one-time waiver stating that neither you nor your doctor will directly bill Medicare for our services. Medicare will still cover lab tests, imaging studies, prescription meds, or hospitalizations we may prescribe.
  • Do you offer DPC Employer Group benefits?
Yes. For groups of 5+ employees, we waive the registration fees and offer the lowest pricing point ($80/mo/employee), regardless of age. See DPC for Employers
  • Are DPC membership fees tax-deductible?
Yes. Effective 1/1/26, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB) clarifies that Direct Primary Care (DPC) fees are now considered qualified medical expenses that can be paid for using tax-free Health Savings Account (HSA) funds.
  • How are DPC Rx meds so cheap?
DPC doctors cut out pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and other insurance-related negotiators. Instead, they buy generic drugs directly from the same wholesale suppliers that large pharmacies use, then dispense them to patients at near-wholesale cost (about 90% off). Most of our meds are only $1, $2, or $3 for a month supply. 😮
  • What are the benefits of choosing DPC over a traditional practice?
Choosing DPC over traditional insurance offers several benefits, including longer appointment times, direct access to your physician, no co-pays or deductibles, and a focus on preventive care. This model fosters a stronger patient-physician relationship and ensures more personalized care.
